The dates have been set and registration is now open for the 2017 Blitz Build in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii!
As we announced earlier, the 2017 Blitz Build will be held this fall in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, which is located on the west side of the Big Island in the Hawaiian islands. The average high temperature during the build should be in the mid-80s with the average low temperature in the mid-70s. Average precipitation in September is less than one inch for the month.
The build dates are Wednesday, September 13th through Friday, September 22nd. There will be no pre-build this year but House and Crew leads are encouraged to visit the site prior to the start of the build.
Blitz Home Builders will be working with Habitat for Humanity Global Village and local volunteers to build ten single-story houses. The West Hawaii Habitat for Humanity has asked the Blitz Home Builders to support many of the leadership positions in constructing the homes because of our experience in past Blitz builds. The exteriors will be T 1-11 wood siding with asphalt shingles and houses will a have a carport. These houses are planned to be completed on the inside and outside prior to the dedication on Saturday September 23rd.
As in past years, we will be requiring a non-refundable $95 registration fee for each participant. Everyone who registers will receive an event T-shirt and entry to the annual dinner meeting
Registrations will be handled electronically through our web site. This will be the only way to register for this build. Please go to our website at www.BlitzHomeBuilders.org., then to the Hawaii build page on the Blitz Home Builders website, click the Register Now button, fill out the registration form and pay the registration fee when invoiced by PayPal.
Remember, you must specifically register for the Kailua-Kona build and pay the registration fee in order to guarantee lodging and have a spot at the build. If you want to register for someone else (e.g. your spouse), you will need to go to the Blitz Home Builders website and register them separately in their name and pay the registration fee. You will be sent an invoice from PayPal for lodging.
Registration fees will be paid online using the PayPal secure transaction servers. You do not need to have a PayPal account in order to pay by credit card, but using this feature will immediately guarantee your registration and help us deal more efficiently with the registration process.
We must receive your build registration by July 4th and lodging must be paid by July 12th.
Registrations are accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis. You are not registered until we have received your registration fees.
Past experience has shown you should plan on approximately $25-$30 per person per day for food. The Habitat affiliate will be arranging for a continental breakfast at the build site and as usual, lunches and snacks at the construction site will be provided at no charge. We are also working with the Habitat affiliate to have other meals provided or discounted through donations from local businesses and organizations.
Updates with further details on housing, meals, travel, etc. will be posted on our website www.BlitzHomeBuilders.org when they are available – so check back often. We have arranged for a shuttle service to and from the hotel and build site. Since the King Kamehameha is located near downtown Kona with numerous restaurants nearby, you may not need to rent a car. We will also help you on sharing rides, airport pick up, trade fare information, etc. Later this summer, our on-line store will be the place where you can purchase BHB sport shirts and accessories as well as additional T-shirts if you desire.
The Habitat Affiliate does not allow persons under the age of 16 to participate in the build. Persons 16 and 17 years of age will require a parent’s/guardian’s signature on the waiver form and will be restricted in the type of tasks they are permitted to perform (e.g., no power tools, ladders, or roof access).
If you have questions or encounter problems with our web site, please contact us immediately at Registrar@BlitzHomeBuilders.org.
Planning these events takes a lot of time and effort by the Planning Committee. One of the first things we need to know is how many volunteers will be attending in order for us to arrange for lodging, meals, venues, caterers, and, yes, even the construction materials and tools. Your early registration is an important part of this effort. Please help us by completing your registration as quickly as possible.
Thank you in advance for your continued interest and participation. We look forward to being together with you in September to build houses, renew old friendships and make some new ones, and have fun doing so in beautiful Kailua-Kona, Hawaii!
