2010 Registration Deadline Approaching

This year’s build has been coined by Wichita Habitat for Humanity as "Wonder Week 2010", as a follow-up to our 2006 Wonder Week build. The media has already got word of the build, you can read the Wichita Eyewitness News 12 story from Feb 8th at http://www.kwch.com/Global/story.asp?S=11951390.

A lot progress has been made already. Local sponsors have been identified and four families have been selected. The streets are in and the house foundations will be poured near April 1st. The Wichita affiliate is really getting excited about us coming and building with them.

Dec 11, 2009 - Registration for the 2010 Build is Open!

It’s official, the Blitz Build for 2010 is in Wichita, Kansas.

The Wichita Habitat for Humanity affiliate is very excited to have the Blitz Home Builders return to Wichita and help them open a new subdivision. Our goal is to build 3 houses with them and meeting that goal will depend on the number of registrations we receive.

The dates for the build are Thursday, June 17th through Friday, June 25th with the dedication on the morning of Saturday, June 26th. Sunday the 20th will be a day off. House Leads and Crew Leads are invited to be on site Wednesday the 16th to assist in getting ready for the build.

There will be a general meet & greet meeting at the hotel of all volunteers, staff, families, and major sponsors on Wednesday evening, June 16th. The Blitz Home Builders annual meeting event will be on Wednesday, June 23rd.

Mid-Continent airport (ICT) serves the Wichita area. Another option would be to fly into Oklahoma City, OK or Kansas City, KS and drive to Wichita.

As in past years, we will be requiring a non-refundable $70 registration fee for each participant. This will be applied to a portion of your hotel expense, an event T-Shirt, the Blitz Home Builders annual meeting, and some administrative costs necessary to make this build happen.

Registrations will again be handled electronically through our Web site. This will be the only way to register for this build. Please use the User ID that was emailed to you to log into the web site, do not create a new one. If you do not remember your password, click on that link and it will be emailed to you. Remember, you must specifically register for the Wichita build in order to have a guaranteed spot at the build and a room at the hotel. You will have the option to pay registration fees online using the PayPal secure transaction servers. You do not need to have a PayPal account in order to pay by credit card. Using this feature will immediately guarantee your registration and help us deal more efficiently with the shear volume of work that needs to be done. We would like your registration for the build completed by Sunday, February 14th, 2010. Space may be limited, so registrations will be accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis. You are not registered until we have received your registration fees.

Planning these events takes a lot of time and effort on the part of the Planning Committee. One of the first things we need to know is how many volunteers will be attending in order for us to continue the planning process for lodging, meals, and even construction materials; please register as soon as you know you will be participating.

We have secured a great rate at the beautiful Hyatt Regency Wichita. The Hyatt Regency is one of Wichita’s nicest hotels and is located downtown on the riverfront. They are providing free parking, hot breakfast, room discount, in-room internet and a hospitality suite to gather in the evenings. Approximate hotel rate will be $40 per person per night. You should plan on approximately $15 per person per day for food. We are working with Wichita Habitat for Humanity to get some of our meals provided through donations from local businesses and organizations. Updates with more details on housing, meals, travel, etc. will be made available on our Web site.

Wichita Habitat for Humanity does not allow persons under the age of 16 to participate in the build. Persons 16 and 17 years of age will require a parent’s signature on the waiver form and will be restricted in the type of tasks they are permitted to perform (i.e., no using power tools and/or not being on the roof).

Oct. 28, 2009 - The 2010 Build is On!

We are proud to announce that Wichita, KS has been selected as the site for the 2010 Blitz Home Builders build! Wichita Habitat for Humanity has asked the Blitz Home Builders to return in order to help them kick off a brand new neighborhood. We have the opportunity to build up to 6 houses, so we need your help.

The build is scheduled to begin construction on Thursday June 17th and the dedication will be on Saturday June 26th. Registration will open in early December. Once open, please register as soon as possible in order to reserve your spot.

In the spring, we will be emailing all the registered volunteers asking you to finalize your Arrival and Departure dates, and collect lodging payments. Lodging will be about $35 per person per night. We will email you in December once registration opens, so keep checking your email.
