Annual Meeting and Dinner

The Sioux Falls build is almost here and we wanted to give you a little info about this year’s annual meeting/dinner on Wednesday, July 27th.

The annual meeting is being held at the Strawbale Winery (http://www.strawbalewinery.com). The Strawbale Winery is a unique straw bale constructed winery tucked away between a 100-year-old barn, shelter belt, and grape vines. This winery, its farm setting and surroundings may remind you of simpler times and will be a great setting for our dinner.

There will be five wines available for tasting at the event along with wine for sale for consumption on site or to take with you.

All other refreshments will be bring-your-own. You may bring beer, soft drinks, and water but no wine or liquor please.

We will have coolers and ice available for your Brewed or other refreshments.

The entertainment will be provided by Mogens Hero’s. They have several clips available on YouTube for your viewing pleasure.


As always, your entrance to the dinner is included in your registration payment. For those of you who would like to bring guests who are not registered for the build, additional tickets for the event are available in the BHB online store.

Lodging Payments Due June 20th

The Sioux Falls, South Dakota Build is less than 7 weeks away and the 2011 Blitz Home Builder's store is now OPEN to receive lodging payments. You must complete payment by June 20th in order to confirm your hotel reservations. Please sign in with your own username and password to make your payment. If you wish to pay for someone else's fees, you need to log in with their username and password.

1) Click here to start the process. You can also find the Pay For Lodging link on the Sioux Falls page.
2) After logging in you'll see your registration from earlier, the blue box confirms your Registration Payment.
3) Select 'EDIT' and proceed to review your personal information.
4) Select 'Update and Continue' to review your Emergency Contact information and your Lodging and Work Schedule.
5) Your Arrival Date is the day you plan to check in to the hotel, the Departure Date is the day you plan to check out of the hotel. Please be sure these are correct as you will be charged based on the dates you give us.
6) Please indicate how many complimentary tickets to the Sioux Falls baseball game you need. The game is on Thursday, July 28th. Tickets are free, but we need to know how many.
7) When finished, click 'Save and Continue' to proceed to the Online Store.

In the store, the first item you'll see is your customized Lodging cost which is based on the dates you have provided. Add this item to your Checkout Cart. Be sure to add one and only one Lodging to your cart. Your $70 Registration fee included the following:
- $22 towards lodging
- 1 T-Shirt
- 1 Entry to the BHB Dinner and Annual Meeting on Wednesday night (7/27)
- Blitz Home Builders fees and support costs

If you want ADDITIONAL T-shirts, or sport shirts, hats, or other Blitz Home Builders items, be sure to add them to the cart. If you are going to the baseball game you may want a baseball style shirt.

8) When ready, select 'View Cart' to review the contents of your Shopping Cart. Follow the directions for your method of payment and you are done.

If you wish to pay for another person, please Log Off and then Log On again using their Username and Password.

In response to your requests, we will try to help people arrange transportation while in Sioux Falls. Please use the Message Board to request or offer rides to/from either the airport or the job site. If you are flying into Sioux Falls (FSD) you may post a notice to Barb Wicker with your arrival flight information and she will coordinate with you. If you are flying in to another city use the BHB Message Board to coordinate ride sharing.

The 2011 Build is On!

It’s official, the Blitz Build for 2011 will be held in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

The Greater Sioux Falls Habitat for Humanity affiliate is very excited to have the Blitz Home Builders come to their city and help them bring attention to the need for decent affordable housing in their community. Our goal is to build 3 houses with them and meeting that goal will depend on the number of registrations we receive.

The dates for the build are Thursday, July 21st through Friday, July 29th with the formal dedication on the morning of Saturday, July 30th. (We may hold a private, BHB dedication on Friday evening as we did in Wichita last year – we’ll let you know.) Sunday the 24th will be a day off. House Leads and Crew Leads are invited to be on site Wednesday the 20th to assist in getting ready for the build.

While the details are not fully in place yet, we expect there to be a general meet & greet meeting at the hotel for all volunteers on Wednesday evening, July 20th. We expect the Blitz Home Builders annual meeting event will be on evening of Wednesday, July 27th.

The Sioux Falls Regional Airport is served by Allegiant, Delta, United, American Airlines / American Eagle. The city is located at the intersection of Interstates 90 and 29.

As in past years, we will be requiring a non-refundable $70 registration fee for each participant. This will be applied to a portion of your hotel expense, an event T-Shirt, the Blitz Home Builders annual meeting, and some administrative costs necessary to make this build happen. Registrations will again be handled electronically through our Web site. This will be the only way to register for this build. Please use your User ID to log into the web site. If you are registered on our mailing list, your User ID has been emailed to you along with this letter. If you do not remember your password, click on the link on the login page and it will be emailed to you. Remember, you must specifically register for the Sioux Falls build in order to have a guaranteed spot at the build and a room at the hotel. You will have the option to pay registration fees online using the PayPal secure transaction servers. You do not need to have a PayPal account in order to pay by credit card. Using this feature will immediately guarantee your registration and help us deal more efficiently with the shear volume of work that needs to be done.

We would like your registration for the build completed by Thursday, February 24th, 2011. Space may be limited, so registrations will be accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis. You are not registered until we have received your registration fees.

Planning these events takes a lot of time and effort on the part of the Planning Committee. One of the first things we need to know is how many volunteers will be attending in order for us to continue the planning process for lodging, meals, and, of course, even the construction materials. Your early registration is key to this effort.

We have not selected a hotel at this point but expect to find reasonably priced lodging with breakfast as we have in the past. The room rate is expected to be in the range of $40 to $45 per person per night, double occupancy. Further housing information and policy will be posted on our Web site soon.

Past experience has shown you should plan on approximately $15 per person per day for food. We will be working with the Sioux Falls Habitat for Humanity to get some of our meals provided through donations from local businesses and organizations. As usual, meals at the construction site will be provided.

Updates with further details on housing, meals, travel, etc. will be made available on this website when they are available – so check back often.

Sioux Falls Habitat for Humanity does not allow persons under the age of 16 to participate in the build. Persons 16 and 17 years of age will require a parent’s signature on the waiver form and will be restricted in the type of tasks they are permitted to perform (e.g., no using power tools, ladders, or roof access).
